The Senior Companion Program sponsored by Action for Eastern Montana currently has Senior Companions volunteering in 13 Eastern Montana Counties. Our Senior Companions volunteer to visit other at risk seniors within their counties. They currently are serving 181 at risk seniors, 80 of which are 85 years of age and older.
Senior Companions are volunteers age 55 and over, who make a difference by providing assistance to adults who have difficulty with daily living tasks, such as shopping or paying bills, run errands and they often provide friendship for their clients. SCP’s help these adults remain independent in their homes instead of having to move to more costly institutional care. Senior companions can also give family caregivers a much needed time off from their duties.
Companion must be 55 years of age, and meet the income requirements of $1,961.00 per month
(Medical expenses can be deducted from income to meet this level). For volunteering they receive a stipend of $2.65 for every hour they volunteer, mileage, and reimbursement for meal, none of which affects and Federal, State or local assistance programs.
We are currently looking for volunteers in Dawson County. For more information please call Action for Eastern Montana at 377-3564 or Karen O’Dell at 1-866-433-4967.
